Mike Simpson

Mike is a seasoned professional with a wealth of experience in public relations, marketing, and advocacy, demonstrated throughout his extensive career. With 25 years in the public, political and corporate sector, Mike is the principal at SCG, a consulting firm supporting companies with Government and Investor Relations, Regulatory Affairs, Indigenous Affairs, Communication Support, and Advocacy, particularly within the energy and environmental sectors and the sub-sectors that support it. He is a dedicated champion of the clean technology sector, providing investment and grant support to companies across all stages of technology readiness, from early-stage research to market-ready solutions. He also sits on the Board of Directors of Abound Energy (ABND, CSE), an energy solutions company based out of Vancouver.

Mike brings a wealth of experience in navigating the intersection of energy, environment, government, and clean technology. His senior leadership roles within the Alberta government's Department of Energy and the Canadian Energy Centre allowed him to forge strong connections between industry stakeholders, investors, and policymakers, while championing the advancement of clean tech initiatives. His background in the private sector, with companies like Canadian Natural Resources Limited and Devon Energy, further solidified his understanding of the complex regulatory landscape and the need for effective communication channels between government and industry. Mike excels at guiding companies through regulatory processes, securing investment opportunities, and advocating for policies that foster growth and innovation within the energy and environmental sectors.

He grew up in Northern Alberta and attended post-secondary at the University of Lethbridge graduating with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in 2000. Mike has two very important hobbies he is desperately trying to pass (pressure) to his children - music and fly-fishing. Musically he has been playing piano for close to 40 years, guitar for 27 years, bass for 15 years and DJ-ing events and parties for 24 years. When summer hits Mike will be in the mountains fishing for trout and catching absolutely nothing but loving every minute of it.
